Here you are! Located right in the heart of Newfoundland's best fishing area, the Northern Peninsula. Ironbound outdoors as access to all river systems in a 40 mile radius of our lodge. You will fish the world famous Portland Creek, River of Ponds and possibly Parsons Pond.

Portland Creek once entertained sports from around the world, thanks in part by Lee Wulff. Mr. wulff had a fishing lodge here in the 60s and 70s, many anglers new first hand the great salmon run of Portland Creek. Thanks to conservation and protection the rivers Salmon numbers have diminished little since that time now gone by. A friend of mine, Ralph Lox from Pennsylvania once said to me" Portland Creek must contain the most productive mile of Atlantic Salmon fishing in North America. The river being only one mile long from the lake to the ocean, one would think it to be too short to hold large numbers of Atlantic's. Boy was I ever wrong!"

River of Ponds offers its own unique characteristics to anglers, be it slow meandering water, fast rapids or any point in between this river has any water condition you might ask for. River of Ponds continues to yield large numbers of salmon to anglers year after year. There are more salmon caught here per rod day than any other river on the island. With these two great rivers, hundreds of pools and their stunning beauty, your trip will always be a success. Not to mention the bounty and quality of fish!

SEASON DATES: We are now accepting bookings for the 2002 fishing season. The brook trout and arctic char season opens on May 24th and runs through to the end of August. The Atlantic salmon season opens June 20th and runs through to the end of August. We require a $250 deposit per fishermen for reservations.

5 Mile lodge is located about an half hours drive from Portland Creek and while staying with us we will take care of your every need. The lodge is very comfortable and located in a very picturesque environment with a great abundance of wildlife. We fish three river systems from our lodge; Portland Creek, River of Ponds, and Parsons Pond. (See map)The Portland Creek and River of Ponds systems offer great salmon and trout fishing while Parsons Pond is mainly trout and char. All three systems are within driving distance of the lodge, so if the action isn't great at one site we will take you to another. We'll find 'em all you have to do is catch 'em!

GUIDES Our guides are well experienced sportfishermen. Each guide carries with him a knowledge of all three river systems and what tackle works best at each location. We take all precautions to ensure our guest are given the utmost care, gratitude and opportunities for success and the guides we choose play a major role in this. So we choose wisely, a bad trip is a waste of money!
